7:00 p.m. Pellissippi State: Knoxville Jazz Youth Orchestra Concert
The Knoxville Jazz Youth Orchestra, under the direction of Tom Lundberg, will perform a concert featuring jazz pianist Bill Carrothers. An acclaimed educator, performer, and recording artist, Carrothers has worked with many notable artists including Dave Douglas, Gary Peacock, and Bill Stewart. He currently serves on the faculty of Lawrence University in Wisconsin.

7:30 p.m. Knoxville Symphony Orchestra: Beethoven's "Eroica" (Performance 1 of 2)
Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3, “Eroica” or “Heroic” will resound in the concert hall, celebrating his 250th year. “Eroica” is the first time Beethoven pushes the boundaries of the symphonic form, as the first two symphonies were more traditional and classical – similar to Haydn & Mozart. Two underrepresented but essential American composers comprise the first half of the program. George Walker was the first African American to have won the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 1996. His searingly emotional elegy, “Lyric for Strings,” will open the program, followed by Florence Price’s Violin Concerto No. 1. Knoxville audiences will remember violinist Bella Hristova from her 2017 Knoxville performance. Bella Hristova is the recipient of numerous prizes and awards, including a 2013 Avery Fisher Career Grant and First Prize in the 2009 Young Concert Artists International Auditions.

Winners of the Beverly Hills National Auditions, YuEun Kim and Ines Thomé met in 2013 when they both had just moved to the U.S., YuEun from Korea and Ines from Germany. Ms. Kim, a violinist, has won top prizes at the Korean Times Music Competition, Kumho Art Hall Recital Series Competition, Sungjung Competition, Music Education News Concours, and the Seoul High Schools Chamber Music Competition. Ines Thomé, a multi-instrumentalist in many different styles, plays electric guitar, lute, theorbo, baroque guitar, banjo, and mandolin.

Dallas String Quartet is where Bach meets Bon Jovi. Dallas String Quartet- DSQ Electric is an international music sensation. Their music is a fusion of classical and contemporary music on both traditional and electric strings. As a result, with the 2016 release of their fourth album “DSQ”, they continue to expand their passionate following on Pandora, Spotify, and Sirius XM radio. Additionally, DSQ performs as a quartet with the full accompaniment of drums and guitar.

7:30 p.m. ORCMA (LINK) Coffee Concert: Emi Kagawa plays Frederico Mompou and Fazil Say
A winner of numerous national and international competitions, Ms. Kagawa has performed at the Weill Recital Hall, Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, the Trinity Church concert series, Steinway Hall, and the Symphony Space. She is a past winner of the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition at Juilliard. Ms. Kagawa was also awarded first prize at the Nancy Clark International Piano Competition, second prize at the Frinna Awerbuch International Piano Competition, and third prize at both the Virginia Waring International Piano Competition and the Corpus Christi International Piano Competition. She was featured on the McGraw-Hill Companies’ Young Artists Showcase series (broadcast on the New York Times’ classical music station WQXR), and has also performed on WITF (PBS member station for central Pennsylvania).

6:00 p.m. Maryville College Invitational Choir Festival at Maryville College | Concert
The Maryville College Concert Choir will host the annual Maryville College Invitational Choir Festival, which will include choirs from area high schools and colleges. The festival will serve to increase awareness about Good Neighbors of Blount County. The mission of Good Neighbors is to help lift Blount County neighbors out of a temporary crisis and to provide resources to maintain and/or increase their ability to cope with the challenges of everyday life. The organization seeks do this in an atmosphere of love and respect, building partnerships and by advocating for social justice within Blount County. Good Neighbors is funded by local area churches, individuals, BCEAC, United Way and other civic groups. Representing Good Neighbors and serving as guest speaker at the concert will be the executive director, Rev. Lisa R. Blackwood. Donations for Good Neighbors of Blount County are greatly appreciated. In addition to the College’s Concert Choir and vocal ensemble Off Kilter, participants include choirs from Heritage High School, Powell High School, William Blount High School, Alcoa High School, Maryville High School and Pellissippi State Community College.

Players will introduce the audience to beautiful and captivating carbon fiber string instruments supplied by Pulcir Music. Come early for the pre-concert talk when guest ORNL carbon fiber scientist Dr. Amit Naskar joins the musicians on stage to talk about carbon fiber and its many applications.
