6:00 p.m. UT School of Music (LINK) Graduate recital: Morgan Tao, percussion
The first half of the recital features a chamber steel band led by Morgan, followed by a recording of Samba
rhythms from Brazil. The second half features a collection of vignettes on marimba, an improvisatory set using a hybrid drum set, and a percussion ensemble piece.

7:00 p.m. Knoxville Guitar Society presents Yu & I
Winners of the Beverly Hills National Auditions, YuEun Kim and Ines Thomé met in 2013 when they both had just moved to the U.S., YuEun from Korea and Ines from Germany. Ms. Kim, a violinist, has won top prizes at the Korean Times Music Competition, Kumho Art Hall Recital Series Competition, Sungjung Competition, Music Education News Concours, and the Seoul High Schools Chamber Music Competition. Ines Thomé, a multi-instrumentalist in many different styles, plays electric guitar, lute, theorbo, baroque guitar, banjo, and mandolin.

7:30 p.m. Clayton Center Presents Dallas String Quartet - DSQ Electric
Dallas String Quartet is where Bach meets Bon Jovi. Dallas String Quartet- DSQ Electric is an international music sensation. Their music is a fusion of classical and contemporary music on both traditional and electric strings. As a result, with the 2016 release of their fourth album “DSQ”, they continue to expand their passionate following on Pandora, Spotify, and Sirius XM radio. Additionally, DSQ performs as a quartet with the full accompaniment of drums and guitar.

7:30 p.m. ORCMA (LINK) Coffee Concert: Emi Kagawa plays Frederico Mompou and Fazil Say
A winner of numerous national and international competitions, Ms. Kagawa has performed at the Weill Recital Hall, Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, the Trinity Church concert series, Steinway Hall, and the Symphony Space. She is a past winner of the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition at Juilliard. Ms. Kagawa was also awarded first prize at the Nancy Clark International Piano Competition, second prize at the Frinna Awerbuch International Piano Competition, and third prize at both the Virginia Waring International Piano Competition and the Corpus Christi International Piano Competition. She was featured on the McGraw-Hill Companies’ Young Artists Showcase series (broadcast on the New York Times’ classical music station WQXR), and has also performed on WITF (PBS member station for central Pennsylvania).

7:30 pm Live at Lucille's: Greg Tardy's NYC Trio (LINK)
Saxophonist Greg Tardy has called Knoxville home since 2010. Prior to that, he resided in New York City and worked with an impressive array of top shelf jazz artists including Elvin Jones, Tom Harrell, Dave Douglas, Andrew Hill, Bill Frisell, Wynton Marsalis and many more.
As a leader, Tardy has recorded more than a dozen albums for the famed Steeplechase label and his groups have headlined major festivals around the globe. His relationship with bassist Sean Conly and drummer Jaimeo Brown stretches back for more than a decade. The three have shared the stage at some of the jazz world's most hallowed venues, but this will be their Ktown (and PBS) debut.

2:30 pm Knoxville Symphony Chamber Classics: Mozart in the City (LINK)
KSO’s last Chamber Classic concert of the season offers a range of beautiful performance for all listeners. The program is led under the baton of Aram Demirjian. Mozart’s “Symphony No. 36 (‘Linz’)” is followed later by Copland’s “Quiet City,” a mournful movement featuring musicians Claire Chenette and Philip Chase Hawkins. Claire Chenette joins KSO as a reigning member of the orchestra and graduate of a Bachelor of Arts degree in oboe performance from Oberlin Conservatory, and a Masters of Fine Arts in music performance from California Institute of the Arts. The performance also features Phillip Chase Hawkins, KSO member and recipient of a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from the Eastman School of Music. Both Chenette and Hawkins have been with the KSO as principal leaders of their instrument for five years.

The KSYO Chamber Music Program provides students with an opportunity to participate in a small ensemble with their peers, learn about and develop skills in rehearsing chamber music, receive regular coaching, and have performance opportunities organized by the KSYO.

5:00 pm UT School of Music (LINK) - Guest artist recital: Dr. Li Kuang, trombone
Dr. Li Kuang is an Adjunct Professor of Low Brass at Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX. He is an international, award-winning trombonist, having won awards at competitions like the 2011 International Frank Smith Trombone Solo Competition and 2014 American National Solo Trombone Competition. Dr. Kuang has recorded many commercial and movie soundtracks with the Sichuan Film Orchestra and has performed with other orchestras such as the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, Perrysburg Orchestra, Lima Symphony Orchestra, and Detroit Chamber Orchestra.

Her performance at the 60th Grammy Awards in New York brought down the house, signaling the arrival of a true force to be reckoned with. This special concert will feature music from her Grammy-nominated debut CD, A Social Call, as well as selected standards from the Great American Songbook.
