6:00 p.m. UT School of Music (LINK): The 24-Hour Composition Challenge Concert
This concert is the finale to the SCOUT-sponsored, 24-hour composition challenge! In this challenge, composers worked to write for a randomly selected set of players for the ensemble sizes they chose. After 24 hours, the composers gave their completed work to the performers to rehearse and play on this concert. Come join us as we watch the hard work put into such a short time! 8:00 p.m. Knoxville Jazz Orchestra presents Jazz Is For Lovers with Brianna Thomas (LINK)
Brianna Thomas started turning heads with her precocious vocal abilities in her hometown of Peoria, Illinois while still in grade school. She had toured Europe before reaching her teens, and has since established a reputation as one of the most formidable singers in jazz. The New York Times declared that “Ms. Thomas has a strong voice and a big range, descended from Sarah Vaughan and Betty Carter and routed through Dianne Reeves, with clarity and confidence and a little dirt.” Her debut appearance with the KJO is sure to be the perfect Valentine’s treat for your special someone.

Additional voices will join Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 from Webb School of Knoxville Chamber Singers. The evening ends with the prized work of Beethoven that is arguably his most esteemed and revered creation.

Rossini Festival - Saturday, April 13

The Rossini Festival International Street Fair has been designated a “legacy event” by Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero and serves as a celebration of the performing arts. The public enjoys 11 consecutive hours of live entertainment on several outdoor stages (opera, jazz, ethnic music, gospel, modern and ethnic dance, ballet, vocal and instrumental ensembles) and the YMCA FunZone, while shopping at exhibits of over 100 prominent Artisans and enjoying cuisine from dozens of food vendors. This unique event transforms downtown Knoxville into a European-style pedestrian street mall appropriate for the entire family. The Rossini Festival has entertained over 500,000 people from Knox County and the surrounding region in its first 17 years. As the Street Fair is offered free to the community, it is largely dependent upon sponsor support for its funding. More info: LINK

5:00 pm UT School of Music (LINK) - Guest artist recital: Dr. Li Kuang, trombone
Dr. Li Kuang is an Adjunct Professor of Low Brass at Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX. He is an international, award-winning trombonist, having won awards at competitions like the 2011 International Frank Smith Trombone Solo Competition and 2014 American National Solo Trombone Competition. Dr. Kuang has recorded many commercial and movie soundtracks with the Sichuan Film Orchestra and has performed with other orchestras such as the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, Perrysburg Orchestra, Lima Symphony Orchestra, and Detroit Chamber Orchestra.

Vocalist Jazzmeia Horn has a name that speaks for itself, capturing her very essence. Still in her twenties, this Dallas native already has a list of awards and honors too long to mention. Her performance at the 60th Grammy Awards in New York brought down the house, signaling the arrival of a true force to be reckoned with. This special concert will feature music from her Grammy-nominated debut CD, A Social Call, as well as selected standards from the Great American Songbook.
