A native of Trinidad, trumpeter Etienne Charles an exciting young jazz artist who is ushering the genre into groundbreaking new territory. His latest album, Creole Soul, buoyantly taps into a myriad of styles rooted in his Afro-Caribbean background and plumbs the musical depths of the islands, from calypso to Haitian voodoo music, from Reggae to Motown and R&B.

7:30 p.m. UT School of Music & the Knoxville Jewish Day School Present: Itzhak Perlman
World-renowned violinist Itzhak Perlman performs a special concert alongside pianist Rohan DeSilva at the historic Tennessee Theatre as a continuation of the highly-acclaimed community event Violins of Hope, which was held in Knoxville in January 2019. This performance will be the capstone event of the Knoxville Violins of Hope experience. We hope you'll join us for an amazing evening in Knoxville with Mr. Perlman.

6:00 p.m. UT School of Music (LINK): The 24-Hour Composition Challenge Concert
This concert is the finale to the SCOUT-sponsored, 24-hour composition challenge! In this challenge, composers worked to write for a randomly selected set of players for the ensemble sizes they chose. After 24 hours, the composers gave their completed work to the performers to rehearse and play on this concert. Come join us as we watch the hard work put into such a short time! Join the Knoxville Symphony before we hit the road for Washington, D.C. to be one of only four orchestras featured in SHIFT: A Festival of American Orchestras at the John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. This concert will give the Knoxville audiences a chance to get a taste of what we will be bringing to Washington D.C., even featuring music about our own Scruffy City!
