7:30 p.m. Knoxville Symphony presents Beethoven & Sibelius, Performance 1 of 2 (LINK)
This program features the brilliant talent of pianist Zhenni Li for Beethoven’s magnificent Piano Concerto No. 4. Ms. Li has garnered worldwide recognition, most recently as the winner of the 2017 New York Concert Artists Worldwide Debut Audition, Astral Artist’s 2016 National Auditions, and the Grieg International Competition in Norway. Beethoven’s soulful concerto is paired with Sibelius’ Symphony No. 2,  which the composer referred to as “a confession of the soul,” led by guest conductor Francesco Lecce-Chong, music director of the Eugene and Santa Rosa symphonies.

Sofya Gulyak's recital programs are frequently reviewed in superlatives, and her concerto appearances with major orchestras are noted in glowing terms by the world's music press. Sofya Gulyak is currently a professor of piano at the Royal College of Music in London. Her UT debut will feature works by Bach, Brahms, Chopin, Rachmaninov, and Prokofiev. Sandra G. 7:00 p.m. Maryville College: Concert Choir Spring Concert
The Maryville College Concert Choir, directed by Stacey Wilner, will perform selections from its upcoming Scotland tour in May 2020. This concert will serve as a fundraiser for the choir tour.

6:00 p.m. UT School of Music (LINK) Guest artist recital: Abbie Conant, trombone
Abbie Conant is former Principal Trombone of the Munich Philharmonic and Professor of Trombone at the Staatliche Hochschule fuer Musik in Trossingen, Germany. Her experiences with egregious sexism in the Munich Philharmonic inspired Malcom Gladwell's book Blink and comprise its final chapter. Her recital performance at UT is a fitting marker of Women's History Month and is free and open to the public.

6:00 p.m. Alive After Five with Kelle Jolly & The Women in Jazz Jam Festival (LINK)
The AA5 spring series begins with the premier performance of the 5th annual week-end long Women in Jazz Jam Festival, coordinated by Kelle Jolly. The Women in Jazz Jam Festival Band is a marvelous ensemble lead by women musicians who perform with the love of jazz in their hearts and the joy of life on their faces. Featured in the group are some of Knoxville’s local favorites as well as some rising stars. Their performance will include music written by and/or made famous by women performers, as well as some original music. Get ready to join the band on the dance floor or just “Sing Something” with the Women in Jazz Jam Festival Band! Winner of the Independent Music Award, in the Live Performance Album category for his latest triple live album “Encore” (2014), “Rose d’Or” of the Montreux Festival for his first album, “Près de Paris” (Switzerland, 1976), “Best World Music Guitar Player ” by the readers of Guitar Player Magazine (USA, 2008), Pierre Bensusan is recognized as one of the premier musicians of our time. If “World Music” is music that pays tribute to the spirit of a collection of human beings through distinct rhythms, traditional instruments and harmonic colors, French-Algerian guitarist, singer and composer Pierre Bensusan can be recognized as one of the most eloquent and world musicians today.

Arcomusical is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a mission to spread the joy of the Afro-Brazilian musical bow known as the berimbau through the development of an innovative, excellent musical repertoire. Although the berimbau is well-known in Brazil, most people in the United States are not familiar with its elegant simplicity. Arcomusical is changing that landscape. Their concert will feature music composed both by, and specifically for, their ensemble.

Prokofiev’s simple, charming, magical tale of Peter and the Wolf has introduced countless young ears to the instruments of the orchestra and to wonders of classical music. Revisit that childlike wonder that still lives inside us all with a program of fairy tales and legends, featuring Peter and other beloved characters from our favorite bedtime stories. Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite is a pristine gem, comprising five vignettes inspired by stories including Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast and more. Stravinsky’s delightful, refreshing Pulcinella Suite, about the antics of a tragicomic clown-like character and all his friends, along with Sibelius’ melancholy Valse triste. This program is designed for adults, and kids alike.
