Every year on National Coming Out Day, we celebrate coming out as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ) or as an ally. Oct. 11, 2018, will mark the 30th anniversary of National Coming Out Day.

For more than fifty years, Del McCoury ‘s music has defined authenticity for hard core bluegrass fans as well as a growing number of fans among those only vaguely familiar with the genre. McCoury is something special, a living link to the days when bluegrass was made only in hillbilly honkytonks, schoolhouse shows and on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry, yet also a commandingly vital presence today, from prime time and late night talk show TV to music festivals where audiences number in the hundreds of thousands.

6:00 pm UT School of Music guest artist recital: Taylor Brown, double bass
Taylor Brown is the principle bassist of the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera. In addition to his orchestral and outreach work with the CSO, Taylor regularly performs with the Pittsburgh and Nashville Symphonies, and appears in concert with Intersection Contemporary Ensemble.

Ascension’s very own Director of Music Ministries, Mr. James Garvey, will present an organ recital on the Wilhelm organ in honor of the 30th anniversary of its dedication. Scheduled are a concerto by Bach, the trio sonata by Hugo Distler, Franck’s Choral in B minor, the Final to Jean-Pierre Leguay’s sonata, and pieces from Suite Bretonne and the Evocation suite by Marcel Dupré.
