7:30 p.m. Knoxville Symphony presents Beethoven & Sibelius, Performance 1 of 2 (LINK)
This program features the brilliant talent of pianist Zhenni Li for Beethoven’s magnificent Piano Concerto No. 4. Ms. Li has garnered worldwide recognition, most recently as the winner of the 2017 New York Concert Artists Worldwide Debut Audition, Astral Artist’s 2016 National Auditions, and the Grieg International Competition in Norway. Beethoven’s soulful concerto is paired with Sibelius’ Symphony No. 2,  which the composer referred to as “a confession of the soul,” led by guest conductor Francesco Lecce-Chong, music director of the Eugene and Santa Rosa symphonies.

A tasting menu of Beethoven's 32 piano sonatas, presented by UT piano studios. This concert is the finale to the SCOUT-sponsored, 24-hour composition challenge! In this challenge, composers worked to write for a randomly selected set of players for the ensemble sizes they chose. After 24 hours, the composers gave their completed work to the performers to rehearse and play on this concert. Come join us as we watch the hard work put into such a short time! Join the Knoxville Symphony before we hit the road for Washington, D.C. to be one of only four orchestras featured in SHIFT: A Festival of American Orchestras at the John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. This concert will give the Knoxville audiences a chance to get a taste of what we will be bringing to Washington D.C., even featuring music about our own Scruffy City!
